Hershey The Sweetest Place On Earth is on the move! Currently, there are several exciting construction projects underway to ensure that future travel around town is even more efficient and enjoyable. While each project has plans to maintain traffic at all times, travelers can expect delays at certain times during construction. It may take a few extra minutes to get to your destination, but roads will not be closed during construction and flaggers will assist on site to keep you on your way. The projects underway will also affect your GPS directions, so look for the blue signs in the construction areas for direction assistance. Thank you for your understanding!
High Construction Alert:
- Traffic patterns shifted from the old SR 743(Cocoa Avenue) alignment south of SR 422 (Chocolate Avenue) to the new SR 743(Cocoa Avenue) Alignment opposite the Park Avenue.
- SR 422 (Chocolate Avenue) will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction east of the intersection of SR 422 (Chocolate Avenue) and SR 743(Cocoa Avenue\Park Avenue) to begin construction of the SR 422 (Chocolate Avenue) pedestrian underpass.
- Travelers may encounter intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures throughout construction.
Upcoming Construction Activities:
- Southern Work Area – SR743 (Cocoa Avenue) South of US 422: The Contractor intends to switch traffic from the existing SR 743 roadway to the new roadway opposite Park Avenue in early June (pending weather).
Project Overview:
Through years of planning, design, and funding, several major township infrastructure projects moved into construction throughout Derry Township. The projects include infrastructure improvements to bridges, roadways, intersections, and stormwater and sanitary facilities.

- Cocoa Ave. will be realigned beginning at the Cocoa Ave. / Caracas Ave. intersection and ending at Chocolate Ave. This will reduce the number of intersections from two to one in this area.
- Park Ave. will be realigned beginning at the Park. Ave. / Chocolate Ave. intersection and ending at the ZooAmerica parking lot entrance.
- A new bridge will be constructed east of the existing bridge to span over the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. The existing bridge will be removed once this construction is finished.
- Park Boulevard will be extended east to meet with the relocated Park Ave. roadway.
